About

Evan Rosenberg is an American artist living and working in Boston, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he completed his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Washington & Jefferson College, where he took studio classes in drawing and painting and fell in love with an art practice. His work utilizing silk as a medium was born out of his scientific research at a biotech start up which utilizes silk to stabilize biologics.  Intrigued by the possibilities of silk as a material for art, he began exploring its properties and limitations by weaving his own webs into three-dimensional spaces.

From a process perspective, the work he does is grounded in repetition and meditation. When he acquires the silk, it is wound into a large, reeled bundle, which he then separates into hundreds of smaller bundles of about 200 strands each. Because the silk is sticky, only one or two strands can be separated from the reel at a time. After hand-dying the bundles, he weaves the four-foot strands individually into a shadowbox-like frame. He attaches the silk to the frame by hand-sewing it in and using a surgical know to secure it.

Evan’s work explores various aspects of life. Relationships and interactions, finding the things that ground you in a world that is ever-increasingly chaotic, and explores concepts such as acceptance and impermanence.
