SILK
PERSPECTIVE SERIES
The perspective series, at it’s core, reminds the viewer to transfer the practice of examining my art (by moving from side to side to take in the perspective elements of the work), and translate this into real life. Far too often, people stick to their ways. We as a society are unable to look at the other side’s perspective. If it is too different, we dismiss it. My hope is that people can use my work to open their minds and hearts so that we can heal the divide in our country and world.
GROUNDING SERIES
The grounding series was created during the pandemic and includes some of the earliest work I made with silk. The work consists of a chaotic web of silk as well as thicker vertical and horizontal lines of silk, representing the need for things that keep us grounded in sane in an ever-growing chaotic world.
SUSPENDED SERIES
The suspended series utilizes fluorescent-dyed silk suspended in a web of black silk, which is lit by UV light. This creates the perception of the silk suspended in mid air. This work is a reminder that we are shaped by experiences and interactions with people, and until we get to understand what creates us, we can appear as this complete product. Only when we get to know someone (or we get up close and personal with the art), we see what is creating the shape (or the person).
